“ I shot the sheriff. but I swear it was in self defense.
I shot the sheriff. But I didnt shoot no deputy.
I shot the sheriff. & They say its a capital offense.
Reflexes got the better of me.
Everyday the bucket goes to the well, one day the phantom will drop it.
Read it in the news.”
-Shot the Sheriff [Bob Marley!]
One of the best musicians ever. He’s probably THE best musician ever. [For those music critics out there, YES, I do realize the lyrics aren’t in any order, except for maybe the first few. That’s just how I chose to write them.] The last few days, I’ve been listening to a lot of music. Cypress Hill, PATD, Against Me!, Forever the Sickest Kids. And of course, Cobra Starship & A Cursive Memory. A lot of artists, I know. Real music tells a story, no matter what the story actually is. Every song has a meaning behind it. I was reading an article, where William Beckett from The Academy Is was talking about his songs. He said that even though listeners think they know what songs are about, they really don’t. Only the artists really know what each and every song is about, and why they wrote it. And that’s true. Everyone can define certain lyrics differently, people have different ways of comprehending lyrics. The same thing happens with words. You might say something totally harmless, and the other person might take it in a whole other way. Bob Marley sang for freedom, life, and liberty. He knew that he could make a difference, so he decided to sing about things that actually would make a difference to people. And now, he’s one of the most popular artists ever, even though he died. Music has become the life of every teenager, and you can tell. Who doesn’t have an iPod, or MP3 player? We can relate to all types of music, and a lot of times, music makes us feel better when nothing else can. I currently have 750 songs on my iPod, and everyday I download even more. I can’t live without music, and I don’t think anyone else can.
